Villages & Towns
The village of Olocau is a 10 min walk from VVS, a small pueblo with shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. It's a peaceful place for a stroll, a coffee and a relaxing breather. The town square
is very pretty, with a very friendly cafe serving fresh local produce daily, including a great
lunchtime 'menu of the day' for just €7.
From Olocau, you can catch a bus to the nearby towns and villages.
Just 10km towards Valencia, you will come across Lliria, the capital town of the Camp de Turia,
and nearby Benaguacil, Benisano and Villamarxant
- all towns worth visiting. Pop in for a quick
tapas, a beer, and to take in the sights. Lliria is famous for many reasons. This large town has
a population of over 20,000 and was the original capital of the whole region in Roman times,
when it was known as Edeta. Many archaeological sites can be found around the town, most notably
the Roman Baths in the centre of town. It is also famously known as 'The City of Music', with 2 renowned musical bands. In town you will find a beautiful cathedral, just in front of the town
square (which has a big market every thursday), and up above the town, perched on the hill, is
the Monastery of San Miguel, which has breathtaking views.
Lliria is where you will find the Metro station to take you into Valencia. The car park is large
(and free!), and the journey very cheap. What's best of all is that on your way back from Valencia
you needn't worry about missing you stop - it's the last one, so snooze away!!
It also has hundreds of cafes & bars, restaurants, banks, a health centre, a gym, and nightclubs.
There are markets on every day of the week, in various towns, where you can find everything
from jewellery and shoes to specialty cheeses and churros. Most larger towns also have
a permanent daily fresh food and fish market, where you can find the owners haggling
with the local restaurateurs and cafe owners for the best prices.

Fiestas then Siestas
If you are here on holiday, chances are you will get an opportunity to see the odd fiesta or two.
They are numerous, and everywhere, all locally:
Bull Runs - Notably in Vilamarxant and Lliria (where they stage 2 in Aug/Sept)
Strange Local Fiestas - Such as the meringue throwing fiesta (it's true, i've been there!)
Paella Competitions
- Most towns and areas insist on at least one a year
Moors vs. Christians Parades -
Throughout the region, loud parades with stunning costumes.
Most towns and villages have their own Patron Saint (or Saints) so there are fiestas held
throughout the year and they all vary from town to town, and boy, do they like to party.

More Fiestas, Parties & Towns
The small town of Buñol lies around 40 min's from VVS - a beautiful, quaint and peaceful town,
boasting a museum, castle and church. But, come the end of August, it becomes, quite possibly,
one of the maddest places on earth. This is where 'La Tomatina' is held.
Usually the final wednesday of August, 30,000+ people congregate to participate in the biggest
tomato fight in the world. Somehow, all these people shoe-horn into one tiny street, and await
the coming of the monster trucks, leaden with tomatoes. Once the firework goes off, it's just
mayhem from start to finish. Awesome.
Nearby, you'll find the towns of Chiva and Cheste, both worth a visit. Chiva snakes along the
course of a dried river, and is good value for a day out, while Cheste has it's own 'special' fiesta.
Cheste is home to a huge University, as well as El Circuito Ricardo Tormo - Valencia's Racing Circuit.
The circuit stages rounds of many of the world's elite motor sport events, including the World Touring Car Championship & Motorcycles World Superbike Tournament, but more so than others,
The World Motorcycle GP Championship (MOTO GP), every Oct/Nov.
Come race weekend, this is another fiesta not to be missed. Figures estimate anything from
90,000-130,000 spectators for race Sunday, but unofficial figures suggest even more than that
frequent the saturday night fiesta in Cheste town centre. Bikes and noise, beer and more noise.
It's really good fun, and very safe, with the majority of revelers of a semi-sensible mind, this
party goes on until the morning of the races.

Nature in it's splendour
|
Nature
If nature is more to your liking, we have the perfect scenery right on our doorstep.
The Sierra Calderona is great for hiking and hill walks, you will find huge lakes with picnic
areas and stunning waterfalls with pools to take a dip in.
What about discovering deserted villages sunken in damned valleys?
There are lots of official tours that can organised during your stay, including visiting a Roman
aqueduct,a waterfall & barbeque tour and a trip to see neolithic cave paintings.
One of Valencia's most famous nature areas is La Albufera.
This is a large nature park which stretches from Valencia towards Cullera to the south, and is
where most of the rice growing for the famous Paella still continues today, as well as being
home to some of the most important wildlife of the region.
There is a tour boat daily which will take you out and over the lake.

parascending, rock climbing & mountain biking.
Horse Riding

Local Sports
You will find most bigger towns will have a number of sporting facilities, such as tennis courts,
indoor swimming pools, pilota courts, and football stadia (putting a few UK clubs to shame).
They are generally all available to holiday makers, at cheap prices.
Basketball is huge here in Spain, and depending on your holiday dates, you may be lucky
enough to be here when the local Lliria team take on their rivals at their purpose built stadium.
